How to Play Billiard

Billiards is a game of angles, patience, and control. Whether you are picking up a cue for the first time or brushing up your skills, these fundamentals will help you play with confidence at Happy Billiard.
1. Build a Stable Stance
Stand with your feet roughly shoulder-width apart and keep your weight balanced. Your non-dominant foot should step slightly toward the shot line, and your body should be low and steady so the cue moves smoothly.
2. Hold the Cue Correctly
Grip the cue lightly with your back hand about a hand's width from the butt. A relaxed grip prevents twitching and lets the cue glide straight through the bridge formed by your front hand.
3. Aim with the Ghost Ball
Visualize a "ghost ball" where the cue ball needs to be at the moment of contact, then aim the cue ball's center at that spot. Line up the cue along the path from the ghost ball through the object ball's target.
4. Master the Break
A good break starts low and accelerates through the ball. Keep your bridge hand steady, follow through, and let the cue ball travel level rather than digging under it.
5. Control the Cue Ball
Where the cue ball ends up matters as much as the shot itself. Strike above center to follow forward, below center to draw back, and to the side to shift left or right. Practice these spins to set up your next shot.
